What's on your wish list? Part II

And now for the exciting conclusion...

Part 2 of 2

Myth II: Soulblighter
Published by Bungie Software

Last year's Myth was a step in the right direction for the real-time strategy genre. It was entirely strategy based with sparkling graphics, some which were a little too realistic in their depiction of death. Myth II builds on its successor by being more of the same thing, only with more of everything. The maps have become more expansive and sharper in detail. Objects in the game are now part of the game; things move about and are able to be destroyed. With the addition of a level creator and a more intelligent AI, Myth II includes everything that was missing from the original, plus more!

Railroad Tycoon II
Published by Gathering of Developers

Last article had a selection about Civilization: Call to Power, a semi-sequel to Sid Meier's classic Civilization II. Railroad Tycoon II is also a sequel to another of Meier's classics, Railroad Tycoon. Hopefully it will be able to revitalize a genre that has been absent for too long, the economic strategy game. Laying track, building stations, buying stock is only part of the game. You also get to play with a lot of really cool trains from the years 1800 to 2000 on maps based on satellite imaging. This title would be fun to just play alone, but there are multi-player options, allowing up to 16 players from around the world to compete in the cutthroat world of trains.

Sin
Published by Activision

Imagine a world where private corporations uphold the law, not the police. That's the position you're in while playing Sin, a 3D-shooter based on the popular Quake engine. You're John Blade, a law enforcer trying to get to the bottom of a devious scheme by the beautiful Elexis Sinclaire. The action in Sin is more fast-paced than in Half-Life, but that doesn't mean it's not a thinking person's game. The enemies are very intelligent, plus they can be targeted in various spots of their body: the head, stomach, legs, arms, etc. It may be action oriented, but the story does stand up on its own. And once you get down with the single-player action, you can go and enjoy the multi-player mayhem as much due to the equal amount of time spent on each.

Only eight games were featured in this and last article, not even close to the number of games released during the holiday season. Other potential champions not seen here are Dominant Species from Storm Entertainment, Falcon 4.0 from MicroProse, Heavy Gear II from Activision, Tomb Raider III from Eidos Interactive and Trespasser from Dreamworks Interactive plus too many to list here. I suggest checking out some of the larger sites devoted to computer gaming for a more extensive list. Have a happy holidays from Computer Gaming News and Suite101.
