More news is good news

There have been some new developments with this column lately. First off, to allow for more complete coverage of computer gaming news, most articles will cover a wide selection of events, not just a single story. In place of the individual news story will be tidbits of information on the last two weeks in the gaming industry, unless there's something so important it creates a gaming revolution. Second, to brighten this space up I've decided to include images. Nothing big, just something that will be attractive to the eyes.

News items from September 1 to September 4, 1998. (Sorry for the incomplete weeks, the next article will feature two whole weeks of the news!)

  • Epic MegaGame's popular action game for the PC, Unreal, is now available for the Macintosh for approximately $50 US.
  • Microsoft's Internet Gaming Zone is reported to be the most popular online multi-player gaming site on the Internet. The bulk of its users, sometimes as many as 16,000 simultaneously, play the classic games of yesterday such as cards, puzzles, and board games.
  • The Internet gaming service WON (World Opponent Network), run by Cendant Software, claims 750,000 people now are members of their ever-improving service. They've added a new feature that allows users to play fantasy football over the Internet.
  • Some new DVD games are being shipped to stores at this time. They include Riven, and Journeyman 3: Legacy of Time, both published by Broderbund, and Starfleet Academy published by Interplay.
  • Westwood Studio's has reported that Dune 2000, the third in the Dune series, is in stores.
  • On Saturday, September 12, Activision expected the new gold edition of the Quake II Mission Pack: Ground Zero to be in stores.

I'm interested in hearing what people think of the new format. Both positive and negative criticism is welcome. I want to know what people like and dislike so I can improve on it.
