The holidays are approaching at a rapid clip, and the computer gaming companies know it. They're busy readying their latest, greatest, and newest games for the holiday season. Like the movie industry, computer gaming companies wait for the end of the year to send out their best, hoping to grab your holiday dollar. Which ones will be winners? While I don't know for sure, here's a list of the few games that I'm anticipating, and what kind of gamer they might appeal to.
Quake 2 - My number one pick by far - id's latest masterpiece is due to hit store shelves on December 9th, the sequel to the ground breaking 3D shooter, Quake. In the newest version, id promises more eye-popping graphics, levels which actually revolve around a plot, and, of course, all the fast-paced action that made the first game the run-away hit it was (and still is). Throw in theoretical 100+ player deathmatch play over the Internet, what you have is another winner from id software. Basically this game will appeal to anyone who liked Quake, as long as they have the computer able to run it. Id recommends a fast Pentium or Pentium 2. Gamers with a 3dfx graphics card can look forward to speed improvements and other neat special effects. Curse of Monkey Island - The third in LucasArts long and popular Monkey Island series, this one picks up where the last game left off. Combining amazing graphics, hilarious dialog, and some very mind-bending puzzles. With two skill levels of play, LucasArts promises more than "30 hours of gameplay". Without a doubt, Monkey Island is a must for any adventure game fan. Wing Commander: Prophecy - Plagued by technical problems, hopefully this anticipated game will make it out on shelves by the end of the holiday season. "Wing Commander: Prophecy" is the latest in the on-going Wing Commander series by Origin. This time, the game features a brand new 3D engine (with 3d graphics card support), a mysterious alien race, and more of the engrossing storyline that had made the Wing Commander series my favorite computer game series of all time. Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far - For the ardent wargamer or strategy game buff, it's hard to beat Microsoft's excellent "Close Combat" series. The latest in the series puts smack in the middle of World War I, re-creating dozens of historically accurate battles which changed the direction of the war. With amazingly detailed graphics, excellent sound, and Internet play, A Bridge Too Far is an excellent gift for any strategy or wargamer. Go To Page: 1 2
