Such was the case of VirtuaCop 2, which came out in arcades about a year ago, following the success of the first VirtuaCop. Basically a souped-up, modern-day version of an old-fashioned shooting gallery, the game cast you (and a friend, if you wanted), as members of an ultra-secret police force for "VirtuaCity" (perceptive players will notice references to various Sega games and systems, like "Saturn Road"). Anyway, this game was (and still is) a favorite of mine at the local arcade. I can not guess how many quarters I have poured into that machine. The gameplay is mindlessly addicting: point and shoot at the bad guys, and don't kill the innocent victims that (literally) jump into your line-of-sight. Pick up gun power-ups along the way, don't get shot, and remember to reload your gun. That's about it.
I am very, very, very impressed about the quality of the conversion Sega has done for the PC conversion of VirtuaCop 2, especially considering past arcade conversions were quite poor. The graphics are stunning, and surprisingly very fast in high resolution. In fact, the only difference between this and the arcade version was that this one lacked a light gun. Gameplay is unchanged, and even includes network/Internet play. Next Week: Part 2 Go To Page: 1
