Review: Extreme Assault: Part 2© Dan Finkelstein
Aug 12, 1997
The designers have embraced the new graphics technology with Extreme Assault -- it supports the 3DFX graphics chip, as well as MMX technology. However, since I have neither of those, the game didn't look much better to me.
I must give them credit, however -- the music, an excellent MIDI score, is superb, as is the sound effects, which use good stereo effects to make it seem like the sound is coming from a certain direction.
All in all, however, I was upset with this game, because it seems that the designers totally forgot about the *game* part of this game, and instead emphasized the "new technology" part of it. While this game may look pretty on a new high-end computer, the quality of the game itself is not enough to justify someone purchasing this product. If your looking for a good helicopter arcade game that's easy (and fun) to play, I suggest "AH3 Thunderstrike" by JVC. The game is excellent, since it came out about a year and a half ago, you may be able to find it in your local computer store's discount bin.
