Bargain hunting blues!DECISION TWO: CHIP SPEED. Rule of thumb – find out what the fastest speed available is, knock around 300mHz off it and buy. Do not buy the fastest processor on the market when it is the fastest processor on the market as you will pay a frankly ridiculous premium. Go one or two chip speeds down and then buy: whisper this but it won’t even make that much difference – in most high-end machines the bottleneck now with regard to gaming is not the processor but the graphics capacity. Right now I would buy a 1.4 or 1.5 gHz Pentium chip. Good speed, good price.
