Choosing the Write FontChoosing the right font is as important as choosing the right graphics and sayings for your cards, bookmarks or other project that you are working on. There are several thousand types fonts to choose from, from the web, through the graphic programs that you use and for purchase. First it is important to know the difference between fonts. There is the Serif fonts, the ones with the little tails on them, like Courier and Times Roman. These types of fonts are used when reading a lot of text. The little tails act as little arrows to reduce strain and make the ease of reading much easier. They flow from one word to the next. Then there are the Sans serif fonts, Ariel and Helvetica are the most common. There are no little tails on the ends of the letters. You will see this font a lot in schools, ads and banners. The third type of font is what I like to call the fun fonts. They are letters with fancy decorations, fancy styles and sometimes the letters in the shape of symbols, for example Christmas ornaments with the letters in the center. A forth type of font is called handwriting. There are a lot to choose from, such as Brandy's Hand or Dave's Hand. They come in several different styles and are generally used when making cards or other projects. The fifth type of font are called Dingbats. These are characters represented by different letters of the alphabet. It is important to remember that dingbat fonts rarely use all the letters of the alphabet. Dingbat fonts can be used for borders, adding fancy symbols to your card and in many graphics editing programs for making clipart. These are the most common font types that computer crafters will use. When designing your card there are many fonts to choose from. For example if you are making a kids party invitation you might want to choose a font that looks like a child wrote the invitation. First Grader is a good choice for this. If you are making a more elegant card you might want to choose a fancy script font. Colors of your text should blend in with your overall design, rather than take over. Also you can find fonts that will fit the theme of your card. For example if you are working on a baby announcement you may want to use a font called Baby Blocks. You can make each letter a different color or all the same color and the font will fit right in with your overall design.
