Organizing Your Way: Part 3

Organizing your home, crafts and life is very personal. Only you and your family will know what is right and then you will go on from there. I have offered many suggestions as tools to help you in that task.

Some people are natural organizers and have everything put in that special spot, and are very happy that way. Others, and I fall into this category, have to work very hard at organizing. There are many outside factors to consider when organizing.

Children: Having children is a wonderful and rewarding experience, but keeping things picked up and neat and tidy doesn't usually happen. There are a couple of tips I can suggest: Keep two or three baskets of toys. Set out one basket and hide the other two. Then, when they get bored, you can switch baskets. Another is set out a sheet on the floor and put a box of rice on the sheet. Have different utensils, cups and other items out for the child to play with. This can offer some spare time for mom to work on that card or special gift.

Papers: Oh my! Papers are the biggest issues here. If stacked they would probably reach to the ceiling. I have found a couple of things to help with this growing problem. First thing I try to do is sort all mail immediately upon arrival. The junk either gets sorted for crafting or thrown away. I like to keep a special box for crafting junk mail. Some of the envelopes are excellent for templates. The rest gets put in the "bills" basket.

Dishes: That is a war that I am constantly battling. With kids it seems like there is never a clean dish, no matter how many times you do dishes. This task is even more daunting if you don't have a dishwasher.

Laundry: Another one of those wars that I battle, especially with kids! I try to get a load done each day. Sometimes this isn't possible, but it is an attainable goal.

All of the above tasks and the many more that each family faces are part of the overall plan for organizing. I know when my house isn't clean or rid of most of the clutter, it is hard for me to be creative. I am always thinking about that load of laundry or the dishes that need to be done.

I'd like to conclude this series with some excellent links on organizing and being thrifty. Saving money on the more expensive items allows more money for the fun stuff.
