Sensitive Characterisation - Part 2.

Jun 5, 2001 - © Marilyn Cameron

You are walking over some swampy ground

You have reached the bottom of a steep hill

You continue on flat ground

The rain comes pouring down

You have to cross a river and scramble up the bank

The rain stops

You have to cross a large pig's field to reach the field next to it where you are camping for the night

You bed down, darkness falls

End exercise. (The Drama Worker/Director should make notes during the exercise for discussion afterwards regarding reactions, environmental observations, use of senses, inclusion of elements or exclusion etc.)

Exercise Two

Repeat above exercise but include improvised dialogue with half of the drama members expressing a mood of optimism, and the others expressing a mood of pessimism, with no other moods expressed.

The workshops in parts one and two of this article encourage communication, awareness of self and others, and provide the opportunity for including sensitive characterisation in our workshops. Part 3, next week takes this a step further.
