Internet Connection Sharing Made SimpleThe next easy step was to install the Sygate software. I only had to do it on one machine, which was designated as the server. This was my computer because it was the fastest of the three. I had to dial into the Internet and download the software. It took only a minute to install and all I had to do was answer the question, "Is this computer the server?" Sygate auto detected my connection and set an address for my network card because it was the server. It also detected the other two computers (called clients). It ran a diagnostic test to the Internet to say the connection was online. The client computers did not need configuration and were connected. As long as my computer was connected to the Internet, the other computers had access. Over the past four years,. I've changed computers on the network several times and switched to Internet cable shortly after installing Sygate. It worked well both on dialup and on cable. I decided to go to cable because of the unlimited hours and the faster connection. Even the client computers enjoy the fast speed of cable, which is served through my computer. I keep upgrading to faster computers so the client computers are benefiting. My newest computer has Windows XP so I had to upgrade to the newest version of Sygate. It has not let me down over the years. It has a firewall and an activity log so I can see what sites the clients are viewing. The online help is easy to follow and there is a forum for troubleshooting problems or specific development questions. In conclusion, the program is worth every penny. You don't have to be a techie to set it up. Once installed, it runs in the background forever and ever. It's that simple!
