Welcome back to Part 2 of Online Personals. In my last article, I described two sites where one offered partial free services and the other required payment for all services. In this article, I will describe a totally free service and one that requires payment to initiate contact.
This one is totally free! You can post a profile with a picture, view ads from all over the world and contact any member by using the email service provided by MatchDoctor. Your true email address and name is kept anonymous. Members can join a chat room, participate in discussion forums, find out who's online and have a private conversation with him/her. The email service is free and you are notified of a message in your own email program. In your profile, there is an optional section called an essay where you can answer additional questions in order to give the reader a more in depth description on your interests and outlook on life. There is provision to add extra pictures free of charge. All profiles are written in the member's own words. On the search list, new members are marked with a "new " sign and the names are listed according to the last time he/she logged in to MatchDoctor. There is an upgrade available where your name will appear on the top of the search list and who's online. These names are highlighted with a yellow background. The cost of the upgraded service is $24.95 US for a three-month period. There is also an Adult MatchDoctor and the link is found on the main site. This was formerly known as MSN Personals and this site can still be accessed through the MSN Home page. Members can create profiles in all or any of the three categories: Dating, Relationship or Intimate encounters. For those people who have difficulty writing a description for their profile, they can select a script and fill in the blanks or just select a complete script. Many of the profiles are identical due to this scripting. Members can create a backstage photo album that is only revealed upon request and by a paying member. Most of the services require payment except for sending a smile, which is a one-line scripted message used as a hint to initiate contact. Non-paying members can reply to an Instant Message or an email that was initiated by a paying member. For email messages, after the initial contact you do not have to pay for subsequent messages for 30 days. If a non-paying member wants to make contact, he/she can ask the recipient to pay, this is a Collect Call. It can be turned down so there's no obligation.
