New Cartoons: CLEATS and GLAMR GURLZ

Bill Hinds, a co-creator of the sports comic strip TANK MCNAMARA since its inception in 1975, just launched a second syndicated comic called CLEATS ( http://www.ucomics.com/cleats/viewcle.htm ). CLEATS, like TANK MCNAMARA, is syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate (the people who have syndicated Calvin & Hobbes, Garfield, Doonesbury, and The Far Side). Bill is also the creator of the cartoon feature "Buzz Beamer" for the magazine Sports Illustrated for Kids. "Buzz Beamer" has been the most popular feature in SI for Kids since the magazine's first issue.

Cleats is centered around the world ... of kids soccer. The main characters ( see http://www.ucomics.com/cleats/characters... ) consist of several pre-teen soccer players, their coaches, and their parents.

With three active kids of his own, Bill has been soccer-centered for years and will be for many more. I've found that the best humor flows from a creator's own experiences. When those experiences are coupled with the experiences of the reader, it's as if the artist is speaking to his audience on a personal level. Even for people like me who are not even remotely in the kids soccer world, CLEATS is just plain funny because Bill is an excellent writer.

The comic is selling well, so newspaper must also see its merits. Check out each day's strip in color at http://www.ucomics.com/cleats/viewcle.htm ___________________________

Another new comic is GLAMR GURLZ by Ron Heimler. This comic is a weekly web-exclusive to Universal Press Syndicate. The latest comic is always at http://www.ucomics.com/glamrgurlz/viewgm... and you can visit their home page at http://www.glamrgurlz.com/

GLAMR GURLZ follows the adventures of three international models: Leigh, Su and Cherise. These three beautiful young women travel the world on photo assignments, and get into more than a little trouble along the way.

Creator Ron Heimler is currently employed as the designer of the Cool Stuff® collection of jewelry and accessories, one of the leading brands for girls and teens in the United States and Canada. The GlamrGurlz is Ron's first experience in comics and is an extension of the creative spirit of Cool Stuff®.

It was Ron's instinct that there was a void in comics for teen and pre-teen girls. Ron believed that his experience in the fashion industry would be of value in creating a comic that brought in elements of fashion, positive social messages, adventure and a dose of girl power. Ron has assembled a team of highly respected professional writers, illustrators and advisors to produce a comic strip of extraordinary quality.
