Thatch

THATCH by Jeff Shesol is my pick for Most Improved Comic Strip. This strip, which "chronicles the politics and personalities of up-and-coming college graduates living in Washington, D.C.," has been around for several years but never achieved consistency.

That seems to have changed since sometime in July. In my opinion, the strip now ranks among the best around. If you visit the About the Author section of the site, you may notice that the cartoonist just finished a major academic book (he's a Rhodes Scholar and was, I think, doing his dissertation). Maybe it's a coincidence that the strip got great just after the book was finished, but maybe it's because Jeff now has more time to devote to being a cartoonist.

In any event, I called the DILBERT thing in 1990 (five years ahead of everyone else). Don't miss THATCH for five years, go see it daily on the Web.
