THE NORM: Impressive Use of the Net

© Laura Kraus

THE NORM by Michael Jantze has one of the most comprehensive comic strip web sites ( http://www.thenorm.com/ )on the internet. The strip is distributed to newspapers by King Features Syndicate, but Michael has created a web site that offers many "value added" features beyond merely re-runs of the strip and a small store.

One of the interesting features is THE NORMATHON, which the web site ( http://www.thenorm.com/normathon/index.h... ) describes as follows: "What is THE NORMATHON, you ask? It's something mighty special from us to you...and it's free!

When you click on the artwork above, a separate window pops up, randomly loading hundreds of THE NORM strips right before your eyes. Just pull the window to a convenient place on your screen and you can enjoy your favorite strip (THE NORM) all day long."

Another nice feature is a quarterly e-zine that you can subscribe to for free ( http://www.thenorm.com/zine/zine.asp ). It is described as follows: "CLUB NORM is about whatever is important to you because it's written by you and other readers of THE NORM. Pick a thread and we'll go there. Of course, I still talk out of turn whenever I feel like it."
