April Fools Week

On April Fools Day approximately forty syndicated cartoonists switched strips. Some cartoonists used the opportunity to experiment with a new style. Most, however, joked about the characters or style in the comic they were ghostwriting. A particularly fun aspect of the switcheroo was that many of the cartoonists traded strips. Thus each got a jab at the other.

This was the first time cartoonists have ever switched for April Fools Day. The sentiment among syndicated cartoonists is that they would like to make this an annual event. With any luck, next year all cartoonists will take part.

Another interesting aspect of the switcheroo was that it was kept entirely secret. Even on the cartoonist Internet bulletin boards, nobody gave it away.
