I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July.

What's the comic book news for this week?

Comic Shop News at http://www.csnsider.com/ reports that Alex Simmons will create a graphic novel based on the 'Extreme Zombie' toys. The comic book version of X-Men Evolution is based on the television series currently playing on WB television network. This series will end with issue #9 in July. John Byrne will do cover art for 'Transformers: Dark Design". Stuart Moore will drop his editor duties at Marvel to return to writing comics. Blade and Marvel Knights will both be cancelled in August. Marvel's 'Call of Duty - The Brotherhood' is a smash hit. The book sold out almost immediately and Is slated for reprint along with back stories that reprint Daredevil #32 and 33 - 96 pages for $2.99 comic soon. Top Cow's 'Battle of the Planets' has sold over 150,000 issues on it's first run. This is incredible in an industry that sees 30,000 as a good print run. Even with Alex Ross working on this book, the numbers are astounding.

Here's the scoop on the top 300 comics ordered for July. This information is from Jonah's Comic Book Resources at http://www.comicbookresources.com/

The Top 10 is still dominated by Marvel Comics. The top two spots are held by Dreamwave Productions "Transformers: Armada #1" and "Transformers: Generation One #4," continuing the company's dominance at the top since the release of issue #1 of "Transformers: Generation One." Debuting at the #3 spot is Top Cow/Image's "Battle of the Planets #1," based on another popular '80s cartoon, which features and Alex Ross cover.

On the chart at #4 is DC/Wildstorm's "Gen13 #0," the relaunch of the popular title. Note that this issue is priced at only $.13 cents, so retailers ordered heavy on it pushing it to the tops of the charts.

Marvel's "Spider-Man" continues with changes and stays on top. The changes started with creative changes on those titles a year ago and has been boosted by the incredible success of the "Spider-Man" feature film. The J. Michael Straczynski helmed "Amazing Spider-Man #43" hit the charts in the #7 spot, forcing "New X-Men #129" to the #8 spot., Usually, X-Books have outperformed Spider-Man books on this chart.

Continuing the top ten:

#5 - Ultimates #7

#6 - Spider-Man Black Cat #2

#7 - Amazing Spider-Man #43

#8 - New X-Men #129

#9 - Ultimate X-Men #20

#10 - Ultimate Spider-Man #24

My opinion - these are pre-order numbers.
