Mark Alessi at MegaCon 2002 Pt3

This is the conclusion of Mark Alessi's talk at MegaCon 2002. This is where Mark spells out the details of his business plan for CrossGen comics. This will give you the information that Mark talked about, but only words in quotations are exact quotes from Mark.

Mark - (continued from last week)... I tried to save and American culture. We did not become fools overnight. We are lead by fools.

Audience Question on "The Path"

Mark - [How did I get The Path to come together? I had Ron Marz write this story and I] send Bart Sears in to do the art. [I believe that} Marvel, DC< Image, Dark Horse are [all] cutting back [the number of titles they publish. There are] no mange style [comics. I am not sure we want Manga style exactly, but] we want the John Romita [Jr type] stuff. These guys [the CrossGen artists and writers] are the best in the world. John Dell is one of the top ten inkers of all time and will be doing fill-ins and back [stories] for someone else. [This is a big] endorsement for the concept of teams.

Audience Question - Is CrossGen going to do romance titles.

Mark - There is some level of romance in all our books. [We are expending our efforts right now on web based comics.] I really expect comics on the web will be a big success. If we do well enough, we will explore this [romance] concept. Pirates have a better chance.

Audience Question on "Kid Sigil"

Mark - Kid Sigil is a trade marked work with the Kubert school to develop easier-to-read versions [of our current comic books]. So is this going to happen? I hope so.

Audience question on what we can expect in the future.

Mark - Our publishing schedule is set through 2005.

Audience Question on "back" stories"

Mark [In other publishers, many put back stories in trade paperbacks.] You may not have wanted to read their back story. [By using back story with a different art team] we are trying to cut down the hours [that artists are working on regular stories] from 90 to 75 [per week]. They give their [all in time and we need to give some back so we don't burn them out].

Audience Question on if CrossGen will continue to be located in Florida?

Mark - I gave this answer to Jemas (Editor in Chief at Marvel comics) in "Wizard" [magazine]. Jemas is not going to debate me. We sent him a basketball with a sigil. I offered to play him one-on-one at the Philly Con, and I'm going to kick his butt.
