Top Cow at Orlando MegaCon
Michael Turner was very late showing up for this discussion and for the start of the time Mike Wall and Kate Sherwin answered questions. (Seated, left to right) Kate Sherwin Sherwin [Audience Question on why the 13 different covers of one issue of The Darkness comic]: We thought it would be a really cool to give a lot of color to give a perspective and let you see how other people (artists) view Darkness. [On the promo picture for the different covered issues] I was sitting in the booth when the life-sized painting (that was a mistake), but people came up to me and said they liked it. Every two months or every so often I will get comments (about Darkness) that some people don't like to book, but most of the response has been very positive. Wall (A cable network may put on a live action movie based on the Top Cow characters, and one of the characters is Witchblade): It's really, really close to a deal being done, but we've been saying this for like a year. The network has their own ideas about who that want (for actors for the main characters). We can let the network do it their way and hope they know what they are doing, or we can fight them and say no, no, no we want it done this way, and maybe not getting a show. But everyone tells us they will accept our inputs, so who knows. It will be interesting. Also, we have signed a deal and we may have, like a movie of the week for Weapon Zero. On the comic book Weapon Zero, the sales had dropped too low to continue to make a monthly book. So they went on moratorium or something. It's weird, we are not sure what stopped it, be it's cool and we'll have a comeback issue or something to revitalize them. The people who are on the comics feel for them, but we feel it is better to use our resources somewhere else Audience Question: Why not do an animated movie rather than live action? There is a bigger audience for live action that for animation and this is better for the audience we want to reach. We are not sure what we are going to do (about the comics Mike Turner works on now, to make time for him to work on his new comic "Fathom"). We were talking to Chris Bachialio about it. We will be working with a new guy, and we hope he will be getting better and better on it. We are still talking to other people, but I'm not sure it's possible. It's cool that Mike Turner is so popular and I like that, but he is so ingrained in the book, it's going to be hard (to turn it over to someone else). We are going to try to promote some of the people (that we already have working for us) instead of bringing in someone new.
