John said that when he started out he was "grateful to get work, volume work. (I was paid) $17 a page for pencil and ink. When I hit $8,000 a year I threw a party for may family. (The difference is the) new generation came along in the 1970's and 1980's. that wanted to be in comics. The McFarlane's and all that. They wanted to put so much into it (the artwork) that the stories were hard to read. Now, movies (are the next trend).
