This is a panel session that took place at Orlando MegaCon on February 23, 2002. This is, in my opinion the greatest Golden Age comic creators panel ever assembled. The MegaCon folks outdid themselves with this one. The individual pictures below are of Nick Cardy and Carmine Infantino.
As with all my write-ups of these panel sessions, I try to be as accurate in what the individual said as I can. If I have the exact phrase, it's in quotes. The exact idea is in parenthesis in quotes, and the general story is not in quotes. Golden Age Panel consisted of (pictured left to right) Martin Nodell, John Romita, Dick Giordano, Harry Lampert, Nick Cardy , Carmine Infantino George Tuska was in attendenance at MegaCon and answered some questions in advance. George had decided that he would not be a good panelist because of his declining hearing. Each of the members briefly introduced themselves. Harry Lampert after working on the Golden Age Flash went into advertising for many years. Martin Nodell also worked for advertising. Nick Cardy did advertising as well. Carmine Infantino always wanted to be an architect and went into comics due to lack of education. There was no way his parents could pay for him to geo to school to become a degreed architect during the depression. Nick Cardy told a funny story from his days in the army in World War II. He was an assistant tank driver. Nick said that if you ever went to Europe and saw buildings with no corners (points to self). Nick explained that the one time the chief tank driver let Nick drive. The GI's who were walking jumped on the tank to hitch a ride. Nick said he saw them jumping on. But for some strange reason there were always a group of GI's running to catch up with the tank and jumping on. Nick couldn't figure this out. He turned to his fellow tank driver and said "Tommy, what's going on? Why do they keep yelling and running to catch up? Tommy explained to Nick that he was driving so close to the trees that he was brushing them off the tank. The moderator asked each of the artists what their favorite comic book was. George Tuska had previously answered that his favorite was "Crime Does Not Pay". Carmine Infantino said that he enjoyed the humor stories the best. Nick Cardy said that his favorites were "Bat Lash" that he did with Carmine. He also liked "Brave and Bold" with the Black Canary from the early 1980's. He said that he liked the girls on motorcycles. He also liked Teen Titans stories.
