Comic Related Newsgroups - Part I: alt.* newsgroups

Many newsgroups are available for the discussion of comic books. In this week's editorial, I will list as many as I know of in the ALT newsgroups and give a brief explanation of each.

If you are the curator of one of these groups, I welcome you to respond and give a further explanation of your group. Please remember the following is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Groups are listed alphabetically to avoid favoritism. If you are offended by anything I have to say, you are welcome to offer your opinion. (Please be aware that anything posted here is copyrighted by Suite 101).

alt.binaries.pictures.cartoons - pictures in binary form. You can download these pictures, but as these are binaries, no preview is available. You spend your time and you take your chances. Pictures may be in any format at the discretion of the originator. (Formats may include gif, jpg, jpeg, tif, and macintosh)

alt. binaries.sounds.cartoons - sounds in binary form. (Formats may include wav, mid, midi, au., ra, and Macintosh.)

alt.comics alternative - discussion of alternative comics. A broad definition of alternative comics is any comic book by a publisher other than Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant, Dark Horse, and Malibu. This includes self-published and small press. See the Alternative Press Web page for examples.

alt.comic.batman - discussion of Batman.

alt.comics.buffalo-roam - I have no earthly idea what this group is about. There were too few posts to get the flavor of this group.

alt.comics.classic - Well, what's a classic comic? Again, I have no idea. Who in the name of Aunt Petunia makes up these groups anyhow?

alt.comics.dilbert - discussion of the comic strip Dilbert. Someone ask why Dilbert's tie curls up at the end.

alt.comics.elfquest - Discussion on the cult classic "elfquest". For those who can't get enough of the Pini's work.

alt.comics.fan-fiction - Can't get your comic story published? Try it out here.

alt.comics.image - discussion of image comics.

alt.comics.jack-chic - Oh!!! That's descriptive. Again, not enough posts to get the subject matter. I have no idea what this group is about.

alt.comics.lnh - Another stupid and vacuous nomenclature. Appears to be a location to post comic related stories.

alt.comics.peanuts - What is this newsgroup about? Good grief, Charlie Brown.!

alt.comics.superman - It's a bird, its, a plane, no it's discussion related on the man of steel.

alt.fan.hello-kitty - All right, all right! Is no subject too cute for these newsgroups?

alt.fan.lion-king - Crank up the Elton John music when you peruse this group.
