This continues last week's editorial on newsgroups available for the discussion of comic books. I will list as many as I know of, and give a brief explanation of each.
If you are the curator of one of these groups, I welcome you to respond and give a further explanation of your group. Please remember the following is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Groups are listed alphabetically to avoid favoritism. This editorial is meant to be humorous and informative. If you are offended by anything I have to say, you are welcome to offer your opinion. (Please be aware that anything posted here is copyrighted by Suite 101). rec.arts.comics.alternative - discussion of alternative comics. Virtually the same as "alt.comics.alternative". Specific examples of alternative comics include Cerebus, Bone, Shi, and Dawn. rec.arts.comics.creative - discussion on the creative aspect of creating comic books, writing, drawing, coloring, are a few examples. Small presses and individuals may post looking for artist, etc. Personally, I can't draw worth a lick. However, if you enjoy long hours of hard work with minimal chance for remuneration (Gee - sort of like worrying for I5.............I think I hear the Chief Editor coming. You're on your own on this one.) The usual warnings on responding to net postings apply. rec.arts.comics.dc.lsh - All right, who knows what "lsh" stands for, raise your hand. I see. Everyone over 35 raised their hand, as we all remember the Legion of Superheroes (Quick - in what issue did Chemical King die?) The Legion (Formerly Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes) was started when Superboy wiped out all crime on earth (He did! It was the 1960's okay???) and found he could travel in by flying around the earth really fast. Eventually he came to the century with the Legion and was tested for membership. (The Silver Age Classic reprint is readily available) .For those of you who never grew up and have question on characters like Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, this is the palace. DC was always good a coming up with new characters. Okay, okay, most of the 60's and 70's characters had the personality of a doorknob, but we enjoyed the character's simplicity. rec.arts.comics.dc.universe - Discussion on any character in the DC universe. Actually, in the case of DC prior to 1986 it would be multiple universes, such as Earth 2, Earth 3, etc. (Quick - who can tell me the characters who lived on earth C Minus)
