Comic Legend John Buscema passed away on January 10th after a long battle with cancer. He was 74. Mr. Buscema leaves behind a huge library of work including the artist on Conan for much of the run plus art in dozens of other Marvel and DC comics throughout his long career.

Last week I reported that Indyworld's "911 Emergency Relief" hit the comic stands. Yes, it was there last week. This coming week, on January 23rd, DC' simply called "9-11" hits the newsstands. Here's a nifty preview of the cover. I think the cover is an emphasis that one person cannot do it all.

You all know by now that Toby Maguire plays Peter Parker in this summer's "Spider-Man" film. Variety has reported that Toby has signed to do to additional Spider-Man films. The filmmakers must be pretty confident of this year's movie.

Cinescape Online at http://www.cinescape.com reports that Grant Morrison will return DC Vertigo with a twelve-issue comic called "The Filth". Apparently, this book is not for the squeamish.

This is how DC describes this comic:

"THE FILTH is a twisted super-thriller in which Morrison takes the reader on a psychedelic roller coaster ride through a maelstrom of extra-dimensional espionage, disease pathology, sex and violence, prosthetically-equipped dolphins, indolent nano-technology, co-opted reality and the notion of identity itself. Loaded with febrile imagery and Byzantine plot twists, THE FILTH is a mind-wrenching journey where nothing is exactly what it seems."

Never let it be said that Grant Morrison doesn't give the people what they want.

Future Comics. Is this the future of comics?

On January 1, 2002 long time comic book veterans Bob Layton, Dave Michelinie, and Dick Giordano formed a new comic book company. Check out the website at http://www.futurecomicsonline.com

So, with the market number continuing to drop, and fans continuing the leave the comic book genre, why start a new company? So, Bob, What's the real story?

"Future Comics was born because of an outcry from those disenfranchised fans. When I opened my website (www.BobLayton.Com) for business, I was immediately flooded with e-mails from former fans who still kept up with the going-ons of the comics industry through the Internet. They've been waiting for someone to buck the system...to return comics to solid storytelling and restore that "sense of wonder" that eludes today's books. Moved by the outpouring of confidence and concern, David, Dick and I formed FUTURE COMICS and dedicated ourselves to creating the kind of entertainment that had made the comics industry great in the first place."
