Top Cow Improves Fathom Release
Top Cow Productions has announced today they will be changing the distribution plans for Michael Turner's highly anticipated comic book, Fathom, scheduled to release this July. The new strategy calls for Fathom #1 to have its three alternate versions shipped in a perfect equal allocation, as opposed to the initial strategy of having one main version and two alternates to ship in lesser quantities.
Fathom #1 will feature three different covers, each containing three alternate pages within the book. The three versions will be similar in content, the only difference being that each will highlight the same event from three separate people's perspectives. Aside from the collectability of these three unique variations of the first issue, there will not be a direct need to own all of the set to receive a complete story. The alternating perspectives were designed solely to enhance the enjoyment of reading the first issue.
The decision to change the distribution was based largely on the concerns voiced by both fans and retailers who were unhappy with the unequal distribution and were worried about the availability of the alternate issues of the new comic. "We really wanted to add some excitement around the launch of my book," Fathom creator, Michael Turner explained. "The first idea had some flaws in it, namely leaving the possibility of excess copies of the regular version. Now, the only other alternate for Fathom #1 will be the Wizard World (Chicago 98) exclusive Fathom cover. This cover is a special incentive that Wizard and Top Cow worked together on to provide as a special incentive to the retailers who are exhibiting at the show."
Top Cow is committed to providing quality comics and wants to demonstrate that they are listening to the concerns of the retailers and the fans. Although Top Cow is not always able to make the changes that are requested, it is our hope that when we do, it is for the benefit of all those involved.
