"Ultimate" Avengers? Spider-Girl saved! Hot Comic - Ninja Boy?

You want rumors? My friend Mike S. tells me that this December make way for "Ultimate Avengers" by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch. Why not. There are plenty of Avengers to go around. The Avengers first go at a second series went (as put by a Marvel muck-e-muck) "In the toilet".

The "Ultimate" version of the Avengers will be younger (and I suppose "hipper" - I'll have to ask my group editor if 'hipper' is still a word). I understand the Hulk and Captain America will be among the group. For the rest, you will have to check out "Wizard" magazine for August 26 - Mike says they have an exclusive to tattle on who is in the line-up.

By the way - when Hulk changes from Banner to, eh, Hulk, ever wonder how his pants expand with him? Well, in this version, he may be "sans pants", if you know what I mean. Maybe this is why Marvel ditched the comic code, hmmm???

Fans saved Spider-Girl! Yes, Spider-Girl #37 is on the street August 8 due to a mail and email campaign to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada and President Bill Jemas. (See previous articles here about the "Save Spider-Girl" campaign.) The thing to do now - by the comic. I do, every month. This week - will the Green Goblin return?

Speaking of Marvel, they just announced today that "X-Men Evolution", the successful animated television show, (and this summer a line of action figures) hits the comic book pages this fall. Coming out November 26 will be "X-Men Evolution", the comic book series. Written by Devin Grayson and illustrated in the same style as the TV show.

In other Marvel news the comic "Cyclops #1" debuts this week. Also Electra debuts as the online comic at http://dotcomics.marvel.com. Make sure you have Macromedia Flash player plugin for your web browser before you try this one.

"ACTOR", The new non-profit organization for comic industry creators will be featured at "Wizard World" convention at the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago on August 17-19, 2001. An auction to benefit gold and silver age comic creators will be held August 18 at 6 PM at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The ACTOR auction consists of over 100 lots, approximately 90% of which are original art as well as signed manuscripts from comic artists and writers. ACTOR President Jim McLauchlin and CrossGen Comics Senior Writer Mark Waid will host the auction. Props from Kevin Smith's movies "Clerks", "Chasing Amy," will be auctioned off and costume pieces from his new film "Jay and Silent Bob' will be auctioned as well.
