We're in the home stretch! All other Megacon Reports will be one-page summaries - I promise! Back to Jonathan Harris and more on Irwin Allen.
Jonathan Harris... The last time I saw the man [Irwin Allen] was in July of 1990. Got a telephone call from Warner Brothers from his secretary. Hadn't seen him in 16 years since the day he got married, to which I was invited. Don't ask me why. I thought he had something he wanted me to do. And that's why we were invited to the wedding. Everyone was invited. And I had not seen him from that day to this.
(In the picture here Jonathan des his best "Irwin Allen" impression.) He got on the phone and he said "Lunch tomorrow." Sixteen years?! I said "Oh my, goodness" "[name of a restaurant] 12:30PM leave a pass for you." Oh that's very, very curious. And I arrived at the proper gate at Warner Brothers. Usually you have to drive out to and get the pass [at a building, but not this time] . There was a mounted horse and a cart waiting for me. I thought "Oh, Irving, you've gone too far!" who escorted me to the bungalow. And outside the bungalow was a huge Sphinx a big one, oh wonderful. I walk in and there is a decrepit old man and I was appalled. I hope my face didn't register that. He looked very ill, in fact he was. He lost weight, he was thin and he wasn't the same man. I was afraid to shake his hand for fear of breaking a bone. He exchanged a menacing look. - He hadn't changed at all. And then we went off to lunch. I promptly remembered that Irving didn't like it when you drank at lunch. So I ordered a [drink] . [audience laugh] . Then I went "boom." I gulped it down, and signaled the waiter, and ordered another. Both eyes went [wide stare] but he didn't say anything. Then he said "I suppose you want to know why we're having lunch?" I said, "All right, Irving, why are we having lunch?" And he said, "I'm going to do something about Lost in Space." I said, "Well, OK, what are you going to do?" "Haven't decided yet. I think a movie. If not a movie, maybe another series or a special for television. How do you feel about that?" I said "Well, I'd like to read the script."
