I received this press release on a number of the biggest names in comics banding together to help "less publicized" artists and writers. Read the names on the committee. This alone explains why this article is newsworthy. ====================== FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Tamsin Bayless (310) 566 5675 Jim McLauchlin (310) 268 1530 ACTOR, THE NEW NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION LAUNCHES IN LOS ANGELES - BRINGING RELIEF TO COMIC BOOK VETERANS Los Angeles, CA - Tuesday July 3, 2001 - ACTOR (A Commitment To Our Roots), a new non-profit organization based in Los Angeles announced its launch today. Dedicated to helping veteran writers and artists of the comic book industry, the organization is made up of high-ranking officials from Chaos! Comics, CrossGen Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, Marvel Comics and Wizard Entertainment. The announcement of the formation of ACTOR coincides with the 40th anniversary of Marvel Comics, and an incredible resurgence of interest in comic books and their creators, as demonstrated by the success of last year's release of 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movie. The organization was conceived of by comic fan Jim McLauchlin of Wizard Entertainment, who now also serves as President of ACTOR. The organization is dedicated to helping comic book creators of yesteryear who, working in what has traditionally been a freelance capacity, may not have enjoyed health benefits or retirement plans. Hollywood celebrities and entertainment figures such as "Clerks" director Kevin Smith and "Seinfeld" writer David Mandel are already pledging their names to the organization, along with Marvel Comics founding father and "X-Men" co-creator Stan Lee. "I can't even begin to say how proud I am to be a part of ACTOR or of the wonderful work the organization is doing," said Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief, Marvel Comics, "I know that there are many worthwhile charities in our wonderful industry but ACTOR seems, by far, to be addressing a problem that needs tackling immediately due to years of neglect and oversight. For this, ACTOR is near and dear to my heart, because everyone deserves a Golden Age!" "ACTOR needs and deserves everyone's whole-hearted support," said Stan Lee," There is no better way to show our appreciation to those who, in the infancy of comic books, gave so much reading enjoyment to so many - for so little reward." About ACTOR. ACTOR. (A Commitment to Our Roots) is a publicly supported and federally chartered 501-(c) (3) non-profit organization based in Los Angeles and Tampa, Fla. During the Golden and Silver Ages of the comic book industry
