Here's and email "question and answer" session with Mark Waid of CrossGen comics. Special Thanks to Ian Feller for setting up this interview.
Issue #1 of "Crux" is due out next Wednesday, April 11. So if this interview intrigues you, check out the comic in at your local retailer next week. The pictures of "Crux #1" cover is from CrossGen's web site, as are pictures of Mark Waid and Rick Magyar. ========================================= Robert - The CrossGen press release states that Crux will be about seven individuals who stand up to "The negation". Please tell us about the seven individuals in "Crux", do they know of each other before being chosen, or are they complete strangers? Mark - Some know one another, some don't. Atlantis was a mighty big place, being a continent and all. Capricia was probably, but not necessarily, chosen as the first to awaken because--as Atlantis's Grand Ambassador--she alone does know everyone in Atlantis. Robert - Is there anything you can tell us about their personalities or background without giving the story away? Mark - As far as the others' relationships to their teammates, that'd be telling, because there are some surprises coming up. Robert - How do these seven individuals and the Crux "Earth" tie into the other CrossGen titles? Mark - That's part of the story, my friend--part of the ongoing mystery. All I can say right now is that you should pay close attention to color.... Robert - I read and seem to remember (Editor's Note - This is Robert's personal guess from reading CrossGen books) that there are only ten sigils total being distributed. Is this correct? And if there are only ten, how can Crux have seven of the ten? Mark - Ten sigils? That's news to me. I don't know where you heard that, but it is untrue. There is no limit to the amount of sigils that can be distributed. Robert - After this first issue of "Crux", what can we look forward to in future issues? (Can you give us previews of upcoming story lines?) Mark - Tough to do so without giving lots away. What I can say is that this is far more a character-driven book than a plot-driven book. There'll be action, but the structure's far more like a nighttime drama series--ongoing subplot threads but a definite story (i.e. "conflict/resolution") in most every issue. Robert - A general question on CrossGen comics - at MegaCon, Mark Alessi mentioned that there are "wheels within wheels, stories within stories, and lots of Easter eggs " and that CrossGen comics are written for "intelligent
