============ Wednesday January 3 Phantom' Star Ray Park Grabs 'Iron Fist' by Dana Harris HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - In the first project to stem from the joint venture between Artisan Entertainment (news - external web site) and Marvel Comics, actor Ray Park -- best known to audiences as Darth Maul in ``Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace'' -- is to play the title role in the movie version of the ``Iron Fist'' comic book. The martial arts-themed ``Iron Fist'' is the story of Danny Rand, a child raised in a secret temple in the Far East. As an adult, he returns to the United States to seek revenge on his parents' murderer. The character has the power to channel his ''chi,'' or energy, into his fist and strike with the force of iron. Scribe John Turman (''Buck Rogers,'' ``The Incredible Hulk)'' will write the screenplay. The Artisan-Marvel joint venture was inked last year to produce and distribute character-based programming across multimedia outlets. Artisan and Marvel are also developing comic book character the Mighty Thor as a television property. In addition to his role in ``Phantom Menace,'' Park played Toad in ``The X-Men'' and can be seen in ``The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'' and ``Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation.'' ============================= In news from the United Paramount Network (UPN), comes this little tidbit about a possible new McFalean type series for UPN - assuming of course the network and Cris-Craft come to terms and reach an agreement with affiliates.
