Ultimate Spidey Hotest Comic! CrossGen's Founder's SadnessWhat is the hottest book in the comic book industry? I would be remiss if I did not talk about "Ultimate Spider-Man" #1. I touched on this briefly here at Suite 101, but this is to big a comic to not talk about some more. In fact, for those you you that cannot (or refuse to) afford $70 on eBay for the comic, you can read it online at Marvel's website at http://www.marvel.com/ultimate/index.html . Kudos to Marvel for letting us see this hot book! Well done. Marvel is coming out with a new Defenders comics written by Erik Larsen and Kurt Busieck, and drwan by Erik Larson. On the Marvel comic website at http://www.marvel.com/comics/onsale/0101... Erik relays that Kurt has though of a reason why Dr. Strange, The Sub-mariner, The Hulk and Silver Surfer should band together to protect the earth. My Opinion: The Defenders was one of my favotite comic book series - often uneven, but always imaginative. I liked Englehart's and Hannigan's stories in the 1970's. In my opinion, the old Defenders series went downhill when the X-Men we mixed in and Dr. Strange was out. I still bought evey issue, seeming to hope the next issue would work, but it never quite got there. Now that Busieck is directing the plot, I am anxious to see it. I am disappointed to see Erik "Savage Dragon" Larson on the team. But I will reserve my judgement to see if Kurt can reign in some of Erik's rebellious (and silly) tendencies. I'll wait and see. Big Town, previewed earlier here at Suite 101 came out early November. I must have missed it! I don't kinow if this is going to be a hit or a bust yet, but check out the story by Steve Englehart and the art by Mike McKone and Mark McKenna. This is supposed to be Marvel's next "Earth X" type story. If you have seen this, please let me know what you think. ======================= Giving equal time to other publishers, here is some "Cross-Gen News. CrossGen has a very professional web site at http://www.crossgen.com You can view the movie introduction or not. CrossGen gets the award for "Largest number of current, up-to-date news stories. They announce every change in creative teams for every book. It's great if you are a CrossGen fan. A bit of an overkill for a "just-get-to-the-bottom-line" guy like me. There is an excellent AP story on Mark Alessi, the founder of CrossGen comics at http://news.excite.com/news/ap/001029/14... .
