News for November 2000I am interupeting my reviews of "Maximum Security" due to unforseen circumstances. Sorry. I plan to resume the reviews next week. Let's get caught up on the news in comic book land......... ====================== Marvel has a new animated cartoon series. (Gee, I wonder which characters...?) Following the success of the big-screen movie, the X-Men appear on the small screen. With a new beginning team of Cyclops, Jean Gray, Wolverine, and Storm; Marvel picked their strongest, most popular characters to appear in this series. (By strongest, I mean most well liked, not physically strongest... get it?) They all look to be early 20ish (Generation "Y"????) and the new recruits will be teenages? Maybe. Check out web site http://evolution.marvel.com/ =========================== Speaking of Marvel, the very funny bullpen bits Chris Giarrusso that appear montly on the bullpen pages of Marvel comics are online at http://www.marvel.com/comics/bullpenbits... In my humble opinion, these are extremely funny. I really like them!!! ======================== In case you follow comic book sales, check out the quantity of comics ordered on Wizard's web site at http://216.251.240.98/Comics/CB1108-Top1... . Please remember - this is only the number ordered, not sold. Only and your wallet can decide on sales!!! Wizard also reports that long-time inker Rick Magyar (current artist on Zorro syndicated srtip, credits include Swamp Thing, Star Wars, X-Files, The Question) has joined Cross-Gen Comics to ink Crux, a new Mark Waid written) In case you are interested in politics, DC has elected Lex Luthor president in a series of special comics written by Jeph Loeb. I am not a big fan of Mr. Loeb, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Excellent marketing playing off the publicity of the election. Not that it hasn't been done before (anyone remember Howard the Duck for president in 1976???), but it still works. More on Wizard's web site - their online price guide at http://www.wizardworld.com/price_guide.c... is greatly expanded. Now you can list your comics "Wanted" and "For Sale" on this site. Heck, you can add your entire collection to their servers. Personally, I don't know anyone with that much time on their hands, but it is nice to have the option available for folks without paying for web storage space. Kudos to Wizard for adding this service for collectors and traders. =============== Top Cow is celebrating November as "Tomb Raider:" month, as this is Tomb Raider's one year anniversary. Also Paramount has started filming the live-action movie of Tomb Raider with Angelina Jolie in the title role. Another X-Men follow-on??? More on this story here http://www.topcow.com/news/index.html
