I am continuing a series of editorials on newsgroups related to comics. Specifically I am going to concentrate on the FAQs related to these newsgroups. (FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions)
The main place for comic related material on the web is rec.arts.comics.* newsgroups. (where the * represents additional folders or directories in the rec.arts.comics group.) rec.arts.comics is abbreviated as r.a.c. or RAC
I am going to attempt to list the names of the FAQs and where they can be found on the internet. I will also give you my opinion of the FAQ. I will try to take them from the most general to the most specific. My comments on these FAQs is after the single horizontal line. ============================================================================ r.a.c.elfquest FAQ -- http://albrecht.ecn.purdue.edu/~harrison/ What is Elfquest? What Elfquest books are there, and where can I get them? Questions about EQ characters and stories. Questions about Warp's business plans, and the Pinis. Where can I find EQ resources on-line? ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Elfquest FAQ is quite thorough, with a Table of Contents two screens long. Trust me, it's everything you always wanted to know about Elfquest. ========================================================================== r.a.c.info FAQ -- http://www.islandnet.com/~scowling/ What is rec.arts.comics.info? Why did you reject my posting? Why didn't you tell me you rejected my posting? Why did my article get cut off at the bottom? You don't edit? Why didn't it appear in all of the newsgroups I wanted it to? Why did it take so long for my article to get approved? Do you approve everything that goes into r.a.c.i.? Why don't you do things the way [so-and-so] does it on [such-and-such] moderated newsgroup? All right, what kinds of postings *are* good for this group? __________________________________________________________________________________ r.a.c.info is a moderated group with very strict guidelines about posting. Many people, including myself, have had their post bounced from this group. This is one FAQ that you may need to print out and keep a copy next to your computer if you want to post in this group. =========================================================================== r.a.c.marketplace FAQ -- http://www.instanet.com/~drs/comics/ What is this newsgroup? Who may advertise/sell through this newsgroup? How do I sell my stuff? How can/should I ship the stuff? How do I deal with international deals? How do I price my stuff? What do I do if a deal goes bad? How do I handle auctions? Where can I buy original comics art?
