How to buy Comics 2000Hello all! About four years ago, I started here at Suite 101 in writing about comic books. My first article was "How to Buy Comics" and you can check it out here http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/11/45 This article is still fairly accurate. Comic speciality shops remain the best place to buy comics. Chains book stores are still second best - if you have the right chain. Some large chain bookstores, like "Books-a-Million", do carry loose comic books. Others, like "Borders" have gone to graphic novels, tradepaperbacks, and "Essential..." books. Essential are graphic novel size paperback books, with black and white interiors reprinting early Hulk, Avengers, and Spider-Man comics. Great stories that you could not afford to buy individually. My second article four years ago was "How To Buy Comics Mail Order". You can check it out here http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/11/7... In four years, lots has changed. First, what remains the same for comics for sale on the internet. The big guys, like Mile High Comics - have been around for years. Many new internet only comic shops have sprung up recently. Two of the biggest are Next Plant Over and Another Universe. Next Planet Over had a big display at MegaCon Orlando 2000. Other internet sites have new comics and related items for sale. Many more new products sites are are on the web, but these are two of the biggest. Lots of small sites like KDS comics are still around. Check out the links page at KDS or at Comic Resources for lots more folks selling comics. Second, what's NEW!! In just the last year or two, internet auction sites have exploded. It used to be that "THE" place to buy and sell books was the newsgroup site rec.arts.comics.marketplace. In it's heyday, this site had 1500 to 2000 entries with groups of comics for sale per week. Today, this site, while still a good source for comic sales, it is no longer the best place to go. I've seen iBidUSA, Yaho Auctions, and some other smaller sites. Forget it. Ebay rules! In a week, Ebay has over 61,000 entries of comic books for sale. This is thirty times more than the newsgroup had in it's heyday!!! The good news there is more selection of comic books, computer games, video games, and any other comic related items you could ever hope to want! The bad news is that there are too many sellers. Where are all the buyers coming from? 61,000 items? You are kidding me?
