13 Lucky Contest Winners to Receive $113 Comic Shopping Sprees

NEW YORK, September 4, 1997 — Triskaidekaphobia. It's the fear of the number 13 and Marvel Comics wants you to get over it already — with their Lucky 13 contest! Marvel's commemorating the 13th and last issues of the company's Heroes Reborn comic run and marking the beginning of the Heroes Return storyline in October by handing out $113 shopping sprees to 13 lucky winners!
Contestants are asked to provide the name of their favorite comic retailers and answers to 13 questions regarding characters and events in Heroes Reborn, the 1996 revamp and relaunch of Marvel's classic line of super hero comics — Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four. The heroes have been living in an alternate reality after "sacrificing" themselves to defeat the menace known as Onslaught during the storyline of the same name.
Official Lucky 13 entry forms will be available in key Marvel comic titles on sale this month. An on-line entry form has been posted at the company's official web site.
"The 13th issues begin the much anticipated saga of the return to the Marvel Universe proper of our legendary super heroes Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man and Fantastic Four. The 13th issues also mark the end of a successful one year run for all four titles — all of which experienced increased sales during Heroes Reborn. The Lucky 13 contest is a fun way to get our fans directly involved with an historic event in Marvel history," said Shirrel Rhoades, Marvel Comics, Executive Vice President, Publishing.

All entries must be received by October 31, 1997 11:59 PM ET. Prizes will be awarded to 13 randomly chosen entries.
Editor's Note — Geez, I knew I should have bought Heroes Reborn issues! I have no idea what's going on with these series! Can anyone fill us Suite 101ers in enough to help us answer this quiz? And how can Marvel afford this promotion in bankruptcy????
