Comic Book Sites - Corporate

© Robert Smithers

In this article I will give the Internet address and a brief comment on a variety of corporate comic book web sites. I will start off with bad news on sites first, and work toward some really cool sites at the end of this article. This is because that many of the major companies have poor or vanishing sites!

Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse are already listed on my top 25, and are already available. A note on Dark Horse - they have been on the web at the same location longer than any other company. I think they have been on for four years, maybe longer.

Two corporations, Valiant/Acclaim and Tekno/Big E, have had web sites but are no longer on the web. I also know of no "official" sites for Chaos Comics (Lady Death, Evil Ernie) and London Nights (Razor)

Topps has a large web site at http://www.topps.com. But if you are looking for comic book information at this site, you will be extremely disappointed. The site is much more interested in trading cards and television shows. That's where the money is.

Though not a comic book company, another publisher that's long on hype and short on real information is Wizard Press at http://www.wizardpress.com.

Image does not have a single web site. (Though it could REALLY use one, in my opinion.) Instead it relies on the individual studios to promote themselves! Todd Mcfarlane has no problem with this at this Spawn page at http://www.spawn.com Less known are Extreme Studios at http://www.extremestudios.com and Wildstorm Productions at http://www.wildstorm.com. If you find Jim Valentino's site or other Image sites, let me know.

Bone was published by Image for a while, but Jeff Smith went back to independent publishing. His web site is at http://www.boneville.com

Richard and Wndy Pini's Warp Graphics have had their independent site on the web for a long time! It's at http://www.elfquest.com.

For cool, mature comics try the folloing sites: Top Cow (Darkness, Witchblade) at http://www.topcow.com, Crusade (Shi) at http://www.shiweb.com, Top Dollar (Crow) at http://www.pressmon.com/topdollar/, Sirus (Dawn, Poison Elves, and Animal Mystic) at http://www.edgeglobal.com/sirus/ . No list of cool comics would be complete withou Too Much Coffee Man at http://www.tmcm.com

Last, but not leaset are the funnybooks! The once-cool-and-mature-turned-kids-animated-TV-show, the one and only Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles web site is at http://www.ninjaturtles.com. This site embraces all aspects of TMNT from the early black and white comics to the movies to the TV shows. An unusual conglomeration, in my opinion.
