Comic Book Featuring Native Americans Announced in May Previews

Blue Corn Comics is pleased to announce PEACE PARTY, a bold new bimonthly comic. PEACE PARTY stars two young friends chosen by the gods to be superheroes. The first issue features their mythic origin and a duel with a deadly gang.

PEACE PARTY uses the superhero genre to tell character-based stories not steeped in sex or violence. It strives for the realistic quality of WATCHMEN, MARVELS, and CONCRETE. Perhaps the closest analogue on today's market is ASTRO CITY, which also depicts real people who just happen to be superheroes.

With storylines ranging from prejudice and pollution to supervillains and the supernatural, PEACE PARTY will tap into America's growing ecological, multicultural, and spiritual trends. It should bring adults, minorities, and other first-time buyers into the stores. Meanwhile, regular readers will enjoy the fast pace, sly humor, and derring-do.

With all the talk of media violence, PEACE PARTY couldn't be more relevant now. Writer/creator Rob Schmidt says, "Comic book publishers must reach new readers with new kinds of stories, or suffer. Thus, PEACE PARTY: the right comic for the times."

PEACE PARTY is a noteworthy story for several reasons:

  • It aims to depict Native people as they are today, free from myths and stereotypes. It's perhaps the most authentic depiction of Indians ever in a comic book.

  • A board of Native American experts reviews each script for accuracy and sensitivity to Native concerns. This commitment to quality is unprecedented in a comic book. These experts, and other Native people who have seen PEACE PARTY, are available to explain the need for its alternative perspective.

  • Blue Corn Comics has pledged to donate 10% of the profits to Native organizations such as the American Indian College Fund - another unprecedented level of commitment.

  • Readers can expect thought-provoking text pieces, controversial letters pages, and contests galore - at least five in the first issue. Retailer Steve Bates says simply, "I'm hooked."

  • The comic has earned several accolades - and the first issue hasn't been published yet. Among them are:

    1) A $1,000 grant from the Puffin Foundation.

    2) A "Certifiably Cool" designation from Diamond Comics.

    3) A Small Press Showcase of the Month at Bookery Fantasy

But don't take our word for it. Judge for yourself why people are talking about PEACE PARTY. To receive a FREE preview copy, or for more information, contact:
