Hottest Summer Event?

© Robert Smithers

Almost Memorial day and all our thoughts turn to summer. Warm days at the beach or lake. Picnics. Sumer Vacation...

Time to do what you like to do. Go to the movies? Read comics? Participate in contests? Anime? Video Games? Auto Racing?

Please participate in my new poll starting today, both here and at KDS Comics to name the hottest summer entertainment event! Also, please add to the discussion below to let me know what you think may be this summer's biggest "bomb." Disney's new Tarzan movie - magic or disappointent? Too many dull, useless dialogue scenes in the new Star Wars movie? Buffy the Vampire comics and TV spinoffs - good or evil? Please join the discussion below!

I'll bet you're saying to yourself "Yeah, yeah, Robert, but what does all this have to do with comic books?" My reply is that comics are everywhere, my friend. From Dark Horse's publishing of Star Wars comics to Marvel's Contest of Champions and X-Men movie, to DC's Auto Racing stuff, to the DC/Marvel crossover of Hulk versus Superman, to Viz's publication of the Manga comic of Poke'mon based on the video game - even Chaos comics professional wrestling tie-ins. Comic and mega event crossovers go hand in hand. And the rumors are flying!!! It's hard to separate the facts from the rumors, but here goes....

Rumor - It is rumored that Patrick Steward of Star Trek fame may get the role of "Professor X" in Fox's X-Men movie. And that Sir Ian McKellen has signed to play Magneto. The project will shoot July 19 in Toronto.

Fact - DC has locked up a tie-in with nine professional auto racers to display the "Superman" logo on their race cars. You think I'm kidding? Take a look at this!

Rumor: It is rumored that Ron Howard is interested in directing the "Spider-man" movie

Fact - DC and Marvel are at it again! Another crossover! This time it's the Incredible Hulk versus Superman. Check it out at Marvel Events.

Rumor - It is rumored that the Poke'mon collectible card game is so hard to get that the wholesale distributor is rationing it to their retailers! No matter how many you order - you still get only one!!! It is also rumored that Flea market vendors are charging as much as $20 for the Starter set - originally pricesd at $8.99. Ask your local retailer if they have one and see what I mean. It's so popular, teachers have banned it from school! Yikes - an instant hit!
