======================================== Richard and Wendy Pini (Just caught the last 10 minutes or so of this talk) Audience question: Why not let Disney draw and distribute and Elfquest animated film. Wendy "...[we] went to Disney long ago. They are a greedy mouse, but very honest. They said that if you give it to us, you give it ALL to us, and you won't recognize it when we're done." Audience question - Where did you come up with idea for Elfquest. Wendy "...{talking about herself} I was an only child and my parents weren't young, so I ended up entertaining myself most of the time.... I was always writing, drawing and playing in my parent's garden when I was growing up. I drew elfs and trolls, and other animals. I enjoyed playing outdoors [in parent's garden]." Audience question. What made you decide to start Elfquest, and why a comic book. Richard "...We started Elfquest in 1977, right after Star Wars came out. We wanted to do a movie, but a movie is too expensive, not possible for two people. We thought of writing books, and that would be okay. [But it didn't account for Wendy's skill as an artist]. So a comic book was the best compromise between the movie we wanted to do, and a book. Editor's Note - Richard and Wendy did go on to say that there was an animated feature film in the works, but it would not be ready for at least another 3 to 4 years. ========================================== Random quotes and quips for autograph signing.......... George Perez ... My wife makes all my shirts (proudly displaying his pattern shirt with Lamb Chop's face and pink hearts) Bob Layton... [paraphrased] Dr. Mirage was a real labor of love for me. I really agonized and identified with this character. Peter David... Justice??? [refering to the Marvel New Universe comic 'Justice'} Did I write Justice?? That was a long time ago. I can't even remember it. I'll have to go back and read it again, it'll be like reading something someone else wrote. ================================================ That's all for this week. Tune in next week for more, and as always, let me know what you think! Robert Go To Page: 1
