In Infinite Crisis, I keep asking myself "What is point of this miniseries?" Issue #1 of this seven part miniseries is in stores as of mid-October. Written by Geoff Johns with art by Phil Jimenez and Andy Lanning and cover art by Jim Lee. This "crisis" story actually begins in "Countdown to Infinite Crisis" released in March 2005. 80 pages for $1. In this comic, Blue Beetle discovers that someone named "OMAC" is laundering money through his corporation. In his investigation of OMAC Beetle discovers that Maxwell Lord, one time backer of the Justice League, is behind the OMAC project. The OMAC project is turning individuals into soldiers for OMAC, discovering the civilian identities of all of the members of the Justice League, and is concerned about an alien presence that is both assisting Lord with technology. Countdown reveals that Maxwell Lord is mutant who is able to influence the minds of others. Beetle is shot in the head at the end of this story.
This kicks off the mini series that you have been seeing of the comic shelves that lead up to "Infinite Crisis". The series are "The OMAC Project" where Batman learns Maxwell Lord controls the spy organization Checkmate is he is creating super soldiers out of regular individuals to counter the threats of the Justice League and a far greater, unnamed threat. "Day of Vengeance" where Ragman and the Enchantress team up to oppose The Spectre's plan to wipe out all magic. "Villains United" where the Lex Luthor, Black Adam and other major villains team up for an unknown purpose. "Rann/Thanagar War" where Hawkman's people battle the planet of Adam Strange to face an evil that apparently originates on Thanagar. All of these series set the stage for "Infinite Crisis" If you have not read "Ininfite Crisis #1" you make want to skip the rest of this article until you do read it. S * P * O * I * L * E * R * S * P * A * C * E Well, I hope that is enough of a warning! "Infinte Crisis" is an unabashed sequel to the 1980's DC maxii-series "Crisis On Infinite Earths". It also ties in the four mini-series above and follows up on last year's mini-series of "Identity Crisis". A very tall order to live up to! Previously Maxwell Lord had used his innate power of persuasion to take control of Superman. Wonder Woman solved this problem by killing Maxwell Lord, Unfortunately it was a very public display. The Justice League headquarters is in shambles. The OMAC project is complete, but who is running the OMAC project? Major villains including Sinistro, Bizarro, Deathstroke and Black Adam appear to battle Uncle Sam, The Ray and the Freedom Fighters. For the good guys, only The Ray survives the fight. The Spectre is still wreaking havoc throughout the world. While the Green Lantern Corp with a contingent of Rann soldiers discover a storm that swallowed at neighboring galaxy. On Oa the guardians remark that the fabric of existence has shifted and Oa is no longer the center of the universe. Minor Heroes and villains appear to ponder their own purpose while Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman discuss their options in a burnt-out Justice League headquarters, and agree to disagree. Unknown to our three main heroes, their discussion is observed four extraordinary beings: The Superman and Lois Lane of Earth 2, Superboy of Earth-Prime and Alexander Luthor of Earth-3.
