Joe Quesada at MegaCon
When I started out in comics, I wish I could talk to the head of Marvel and talk [about] comics. I will be as honest with you as I possibly can. You guys have blessed me with this career. One; I do not know when "Black Cat" will be finished. I have two issues via email - Kevon says [he will be done] any day. Two [the story on] Daredevil's father will be out later this year. Question: How come we don't get more [Marvel character] crossovers in the movies? Joe - It's tough to get one. Sony has Spider-Man. Fox has X-Men. It's the toughest thing to get to happen. Question: How come there are not more movies centered in New York City. Joe - The West Coast office takes care of movies. I know there will be an X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3; I don't know who the villains are. Question - How do we submit to Marvel? Joe - Go to Marvel.com and submit to us. We have people who look at it. Chances are slim, but [now] better than they have ever been. Question- What about House of M? Joe - [This is our] first big tent pole project. - Astonishing X-Men. Great crossover coming on the heels of Avengers Disassembled. The Mystique [comic] is cancelled. When you see a book about Marvel cancelled, it's because it's not selling. IN rare cases it's a book for kids. Everyone suffers from attrition. We have to spike interest in a book. It's just business; it's as simple as that. Question - How do you decide? Joe - People think things at Marvel are decided haphazardly. Like a dartboard - cancel. Flats down. [example] She-Hulk was drawn by South American artist. We think he's [good] . We think a lot of things are good, but you don't always buy it, so [series have to cancelled] . Question - status of Thor Joe - Very, very simple - if all the chips and dominos [fall correctly] you will see Thor come back before the end of the year. Question - pacing of stories - example She Hulk. Joe - Is Marvel dictating the pace of the story? No we're not. It is a matter of taste. Some writers like to build up to a specific event. He's a very condensed type of writer. It's just stylistic differences. At the end of the day we are looking for [a good story that sells.] Go To Page: 1 2
