Marvel names new board of directors

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (Reuters) - Marvel Enterprises Inc., engaged in comic book publishing and toy business, said Thursday that it named its board of directors and chairman after Marvel Entertainment Inc., its old entity was bought by Toy Biz Inc. on Oct. 1.

Morton Handel was named chairman of the new company, Marvel Enterprises said Thursday in a statement. He is the president of S&H Consulting Ltd., and director of numerous companies including CompUsa Inc.

In addition it retained executive search firm Spencer Stuart to assist it in the search for a new chief executive officer after the current CEO Joseph Ahearn steps down.

Ahearn is acting as the interim CEO until Marvel finds a new executive whose background more closely fits the board's long term vision for the new company, it said.

The moves stem from the company's efforts to address the significant expansion in the breadth of its business resulting from the acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, and in particular its library of characters, it said.

Other board nominations include Marvel Films's president and CEO Avi Arad; Mark Dickstein, the president of Dickstein Partners Inc.; Eric Ellenbogen, president and a director of Golden Books Family Entertainment; Shelley Greenhaus, the president and managing director of Whippoorwill Associates, Inc.; James Halpin, director and CEO of CompUsa Inc.

Marvel shares rose 1/8 to 4-15/16 on the New York Stock Exchange.
