Comics Happenings Around the (World Wide) Web
Bob Haney, one of DC's mainstay writers in the Silver Age of comics, died on November 25, 2004 at age 78 of complications from a stroke at a hospital in El Cajon, CA. Haney is best remembered as the writer of THE TEEN TITANS, THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, and other DC series in the 1950s and 1960s. Check out more about Bob Haney from Comic World News at http://cwn.comicraft.com/cgi-bin/index.c... It is with sadness that I report the first kid ever to see a Superman comic book has passed away. Irwin Donenfeld, son of DC Comics creator Harry Donenfeld, passed away this week. He was 78. Irwin later became a DC editor and publisher. Later in life he became a Westfield, Connecticut town legislator. Check out the wonderful photo and short remembrance of Irwin here http://www.westportnow.com/archives/0100... I would reproduce this photo here if I could, but copyright and limited picture size here at Suite 101 would not do this photo justice. Comic book pioneer Will Eisner passed away on January 3, 2005 at the age of 87. The creator of The Spirit, co-creator of Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, Blackhawk, and more; Eisner was one of the founders of the modern graphic novel. He died following a December 22, 2004 quadruple bypass heart surgery. Check out more about this comic book giant from Diamond's Scoop News here http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/scoop_... Web Pages Curiouser and curiouser. While CrossGen comics is down for the count, their comics on the web at http://www.comicsontheweb.com are still up and running. The audio is very cool. Check out Meridian #1 for a free preview with audio. The story and art are incredible, even squeezed into a Macromedia window on my web page. The audio is also top quality, the best money can buy. For more online comics, try Galaxy Heroes at http://www.galaxyheroes.com . In my opinion, the art is a little stiff, but I found the story intriguing. The story is somewhat violent, but just remember - like the old Marvel comics - just because a character dies, does not mean they have to stay dead. This comic just speeded up the process (sorry for the spoiler). 'Ain't it cool news' at http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/ has for many years been the place for "the inside scoop" on new movies. This large website now has comic book reviews. Nice addition! Movies Anyone check out Jennifer Garner in the Elektra movie? From what I read, not many people did. Check out the mixed (at best) reviews and more on this movie here http://movies.go.com/moviesdynamic/movie...
