My Comments:

First of all, sorry for taking so long getting back to working on this column on a regular basis. Central Florida has been hit with three hurricanes in the past two months, and schedules of everyone in central Florida have been delayed, worked around, or rerouted in some manner or another. No major loss of life, and all of us are slowly getting back to normalcy. I expect it will take at least six months to fully recover.

I have a few comic related comments. Lately, I have seen a lot of poor promotions for comic retailers and comic book collectible shows. It seems to me that retailers and promoters are simply not taking the time to do a good job of advertising. It is easier to try to put up a quick web page and a few flyers and buy a couple of boxes of poorly-inventoried comics and hope people show up. And, if customers don't show up, try to pawn your stuff off on the other dealers.

All I can say is I think we need a little more professionalism and a lot more hard work in the selling of comic books. If the market was better, I would be tempted to open a store myself.

Well, I'm back, I still have my opinions, and God willing and the rivers don't rise any more than they already have, we'll have some comic book-related news here on Suite 101.

Great Website - Comic World News!

While I was talking about poorly run comic-related items, I have to give kudos to my old acquaintance Caleb Gerald for putting up an excellent website called "Comic World News." Check it out at http://www.comicworldnews.com

There's an excellent story by Ed Cunard about an example of a good comic store ad. Check it out, here, you may learn something!

Dark Horse editor Shawna Gore is collecting classic "Little Lulu" comics for publication in 2005. Next year will be the 70th anniversary of "Little Lulu." Dark Horse owner and publisher Mike Richardson was instrumental in getting "Lulu." And, kicking off the celebration, Dark Horse will publish quarterly hardcover "Lulu" volumes at a price point of $12.95 for over 200 pages of material.

"Little Lulu" first appeared in The Saturday Evening Post in 1935. She was created by Marjorie (Marge) Henderson Buell and the comic strip ran for over ten years in the Post. Little Lulu was a popular character that went from single panel comics to comic books, films, and cartoons. 2005 will be the 70th anniversary of Little Lulu's first appearance.
