MegaCon 2004 - General Thoughts
CorssGen was there in force. (though they no longer own MegaCon, a story for another time.) CrossGen did not bring everyone this time, but the long lines were for Greg Land, Steve Epting, and Jim Chueng. Rick Magyar was kind enough to do a few portfolio reviews for folks that brought stuff in. (I think you had to make an appointment and come back later). Check Dixon and Tony Bedard were also there. CorssGen seems to have settled in the comics publishing with leadership by Bill Rosemann and James Brietbiel. More on CrossGen later... Antarctic Press was also at MegaCon, along with a few studios. Some wonderful creators were in attendance including Harry Lampart, Martin Nodell, George Tuska, Nick Cardy, Dick Giordano, and Walt Simonson. Notable small press folks were Blindwolf Studios (Http://www.blindwolfstudios.com ) with Franco and Art; their "Patrick the Wolf Boy" comic is in full swing! Also Steve Conely was there with his "Amazing Space Thrills, (see http://www.astoundingspacethrills.com/ ) and excellent story comic book. Wizard Magazine was there, but this is the first year they were not giving away few items, instead they were offering items for sale, including their "1/2" issues and magazines, or were giving a prize if you subscribed to Wizard. Featured Guest Allison Mack was in attendance and the voice actors from Dragonball Z game some demonstrations of their talents at their own booth, along with collectable card games (CCG) for sale. I believe the voice actors were Stephanie Nadolny and Mike McFarland. They were very good. I was very glad MegaCon was again able to bring back the cast of the "Lost In Space" TV show. It was certainly a highlight for me, even if I have seen and heard them before. It's great that they still all get along after almost 40 years. June Lockhart, Bob May, Mark Goddard, Bill Mumy, Angela Cartwright, and Marta Krista were all in attendance. I did learn that Jonathan Harris had passed away recently. I also learned that there is a new TV pilot in the works from Warner Brothers for a new "Lost In Space" TV series. Check out information on this pilot here http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/Sho... . News is that the pilot is in production March 2nd to March 19th (right now!) In Vancouver, Canada.
