While I am sure all who work in the comic book industry are working hard, there is little in the way of breaking news. Last Time I posted two large press releases, this week I will summarize news tidbits. Here are some highlights.

============

There is a very nice article on artist Dave Cockrum on Neal Adam's website here http://www.nealadams.com/news2.html Dave was the artist who created the X-Men characters Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm, and Thunderbird and receives no royalties for these characters.

There is a very complete article on the legal side of comic book creators by Clifford Meth here http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/ma... The article gives reasons why it is not necessarily advantageous to sue the publisher for rights and royalties to a character. What impression of you is the company left with? Your lawyer's impression, which is probably not what you want to represent.

There are a couple of other items of interest on Neal Adam's web page, especially if you like inside stories (or soap opera style griping - which Neal seems to be famous for as much as for his art.). Most of the issues are well founded, as Neal does have a point when the points out that comic books, especially based on recognizable properties like Batman. He gives an example of a compilation of these old Batman stories that DC printed in soft cover (graphic novel style for bookstores) and was amazed when it sold out in days with no promotion. The argument is that we do not need 20 more obscure "bad girl" characters that will sell only 10,000 copies each. That this is simply appealing to a smaller and smaller comic book audience. The comic book industry needs books with mass appeal.

Texan singer Beyonce Knowles is being tipped to star opposite Oscar nominee Johnny Depp in the forthcoming Superman movie. The "Crazy In Love" hitmaker, 22, is in discussions with Warner Bros bosses about the possibility of taking the role of Clark Kent's journalist girlfriend Lois Lane. The Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl star is the favorite to play baddie Lex Luthor, while relative British unknown Henry Cavill may play the caped crusader in Superman: The Last Son Of Krypton. Beyonce caught the eye of producers after her sexy performance in Goldmember and more recently The Fighting Temptations. A studio source says, "Beyonce is perfect to play Lois. She's feisty and sexy."

By the way - Johnny Depp is slated to star as Lex Luthor, not as Clark Kent. We have to keep these rumors straight!
