===============================

There's an excellent story on CrossGen's Current financial woes on The Comics Journal website at http://www.tcj.com/257/n_crossgen.html by Michael Dean.

The bottom line in starting a comic book company is that only a small percentage of the revenue comes from the actual comic books. More comes from licensing of everything from movies and TV show to toys, t-shirts and lunch boxes. So while CrossGen was hiring big name talent and paying for it to grow their business, they were losing money keeping the company afloat - Mark Alessi's money. That was to be expected that they would lose for a few years. They have been trying to right their financial books with movie and TV projects, but failed to realize that these could be very slow in coming. Painfully slow. Options are a dime a dozen in Hollywood and no matter who you have talk to studios, things get done at the studio's speed, not at the speed you would like.

CorssGen has already sold their affiliation with MegaCon and are looking for infusions of cash. They are willing to give away a portion of the profits on movie projects for cash today.

My opinion: I am truly sorry to see CrossGen go through this exercise and wish them better financial health in the in the coming year. I think they produced some exceptional comic book stories and some titles are selling well. The seemed to unable to put enough comics in the top 100 best sellers to really capture anything but a niche market.
