Failing a Required Course - What to Do Before it's Too Late

Some people just can't get Biology or Antrhopology or Physics, etc.. Everyone has their own difficulties and in many cases, the course that you struggle with is a requirement for your major. Whether you are just not interested or you just can't solve that algebra formula, you have got to find some way that will keep you from failing out of the course.

So when is it to late to do something about it? In my opinion, NEVER! The very first thing to do is to talk to your professor. This is the most effective way of passing a course that you are struggling with. Most professors understand what you are going through and they will likely find a way for you to make up some points if you show concern. I have often heard that if you talk to your professor about your grades, he/she will choose to pass you if you are "on the fence" at the end of the semester. It is also rumored that if you talk to your professor on a regular basis, your grades tend to be higher than the person who does not.

After you have spoken to your professor, it is now time for you to focus. If he/she has allowed you to do some extra credit work then by all means work hard at it and turn it neat and well-written. He/she will see that you care! If they have not allowed you to do any make up work, then you need to focus on your remaining assignments. You'll need to work hard to prepare your assignments effectivly and turned in on-time. Bonus points if you hand deliver it to your professor 2 days early.

If you are in the last week or so of the sememster and you are just now realizing that you are not going to pass, then this is the time to get a tutor to help you ace your final exam. There will be plenty of people avaialbe on campus willing to help you but you'll have to work fast. Whether you like the idea or not doesn't matter. All you need to know is that you either pass the final and never look back or fail the course and take it all over again (or change your major).
