So you've just made the jump from high-schooler to college student and you feel like an adult for the first time. You go shopping to find the coolest bedspread and laundry basket for your new dorm room and you may have just purchased your first car.
You get to your new residence and you meet your roommate who you immediatly click with as you wave goodbye to mom and dad. Life is going great and you have already made plans to head to the "End of Summer" bash. Then it hits you. You miss your old bedroom and you wish you were getting ready for school in your OWN bathroom. Your roommate's boyfriend is staying in YOUR room 4 nights a week and someone has been eating the food you've bought with the your change in your pocket. The silent crying is happening way too often and the awful feeling of change has sunken in. You are feeling helpless. At this point, you need to realize that you are not alone. There are many other students going through this exact change and are full of the desprate feelings of lonliness. This is the time to join a group or a team. There are many opportunites for students such as intramural sports or a study group in your class. Contact your student life director and look in local newspapers for various activities happening on campus. The most important thing to remember is that any kind of change takes an adjustment period. Time is on your side. Keep a postitive attitude and don't be afraid to try new things. That's what college is all about. Enjoy.
