Let's Go Bowling! - Part 3

Before beginning, let's look at the twelve games already played, and how I'm doing with my picks. I started off strong, but Christmas proved to be a bad holiday for me, as I lost both of those picks. I rebounded nicely, however, with the exception of the Independence and Alamo Bowls (which I lost by a combined 7 points.) The italicized teams are my picks, and my win-loss follows the game score:

New Orleans Bowl - North Texas 24, Cincinnati 19 (1-0)
GMAC Bowl - Marshall 38, Louisville 15 (2-0)
Mazda Tangerine Bowl - Texas Tech 55, Clemson 15 (3-0)
Sega Sports Las Vegas Bowl - UCLA 27, New Mexico 13 (3-1)
ConAgra Foods Hawaii Bowl - Tulane 36, Hawaii 28 (3-2)
Motor City Bowl - Boston College 51, Toledo 25 (4-2)
Insight Bowl - Pittsburgh 38, Oregon State 13 (5-2)
Houston Bowl - Oklahoma State 33, Southern Miss 23 (6-2)
MainStay Independence Bowl - Mississippi 27, Nebraska 23 (6-3)
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl - Kansas State 34, Arizona State 27 (7-3)

Rose Bowl Presented by Sony - Oklahoma (11-2) vs. Washington State (10-2)
Jan. 1, 2002, 5pm (ABC) - Pasadena, CA
Washington State has a very good group this year, with Devard Darling and Mike Bush catching Jason Gesser's passes. Oklahoma looked early like they might be the best team in the country, but have proven that they lack the discipline and the focus to make them a great team. I'm going with Wazzou in this one, by at least three scores. Pac 10: 3-3. Big 12: 7-1.

Nokia Sugar Bowl - Georgia (12-1) vs. Florida State (9-4)
Jan. 1, 2003, 8:30pm (ABC) - New Orleans, LA
I like this pairing a great deal. While Florida State has struggled this year against teams like Louisville, they also came very close to knocking off the best team on the planet, Miami. One kick: had it sailed six inches to the right, Miami would not be playing for the National Championship. But it's that inability to finish that has plagued this Florida State team all year. And now they're making more appearances on America's Most Wanted than on the football field, which iis certainly nothing new to Bobby Bowden's team. But they're in New Orleans, which may offer more "distractions" per capita than any other city in America. On the other side, you have Mark Richt's Georgia squad, which has earned its right to be called one of the best teams in the country. They might possibly even be better than Ohio State or Miami, but they have that one loss, and they've never had any particular sparkle. Against a lot of teams (Iowa, Wazzou, Miami,) I wouldn't pick them. But against Florida State, I'm picking them. SEC: 3-4. ACC: 2-5.
