Let's Go Bowling! - Part 1


I think that this is going to be a great matchup. These two teams match up very well against each other. But let's not forget that this Pittsbugh team came closer than anyone (except Florida State) to beating the juggernaut that is Miami Hurricanes Football. They play huge in primetime, and they're going to play huge here by knocking off the Beavers. Big East: 2-0. Pac 10: 0-2.

Houston Bowl - Southern Miss (7-5) vs. Oklahoma State (7-5)
Dec. 27, 2002, 1pm (ESPN) - Houston, TX
Should be a good contingent from both schools in Houston for this one, but the 1PM Eastern kickoff isn't going to inspire a lot of great play. I'm taking the Cowboys, even though Southern Miss is a little unheralded. Big 12: 2-0. Conference USA: 0-4.

MainStay Independence Bowl - Nebraska (7-6) vs. Mississippi (6-6)
Dec. 27, 2001, 4:30pm (ESPN) - Shreveport, LA
Two teams with very disappointing seasons. Every time I give Nebraska the nod, they let me down. Ole Miss' Eli Manning is the best Manning yet for my money, and Nebraska's Jamaal Lord may be the country's most exciting player. I'm going with Nebraska, because they're Nebraska. Big 12: 3-0. SEC: 0-1.

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl - Kansas State (10-2) vs. Arizona State (8-5)
Dec. 27, 2002, 8pm (ESPN) - San Diego, CA
K State is livid about this slight, as well they should be. But don't overlook Arizona State, who has a very good team. Their defense has the ability to shut down Kansas State, and they have one of the best young wide receivers in the country in Daryl Lightfoot. I'm going with Kansas State, though. Big 12: 4-0. Pac 10: 0-3.

Continental Tire Bowl - West Virginia (9-3) vs. Virginia (8-5)
Dec. 28, 2002, 11am (ESPN2) - Charlotte, NC
What a great matchup! This is going to be fierce, but I think that Al Groh leads Virginia to a bowl victory. ACC: 1-1. Big East: 2-1.

Alamo Bowl Presented by Mastercard - Colorado (9-4) vs. Wisconsin (7-6)
Dec. 28, 2002, 8pm (ESPN) - San Antonio, TX
Are you kidding me? Wisconsin stumbled into a bowl game, and Colorado was one of the best teams in the country. Add to that the fact that the game is in Texas and you've got a big game for Colorado and for Chris Brown. Big 12: 5-0. Big 10: 0-1.

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl - Arkansas (9-4) vs. Minnesota (7-5)
Dec. 30, 2002, 2pm (ESPN) - Nashville, TN
